A collective is an activity run by UMSU’s student representative departments for students to come together to discuss and address issues or concerns that affect them and advocate for change.
You can plan and run a collective yourself by following these simple steps:
1. Plan the Logistics
This includes booking a venue, determining the number of attendees, and arranging for any necessary equipment, such as microphones or projectors through AVM. Your department should also consider any dietary or accessibility needs of the attendees.
Catering orders can be made by your committee but must be signed off by an OB. Order catering and delivery via an on campus or off campus food retailer.. Don’t forget to provide these delivery instructions and have someone pick up and pack away any food.
Remember your Risk Assessment — you can download an assessment for the entire year for your department's collectives here Collective_RiskAssessment_Template.xlsx
2. Promote the Collective
Promote your collective to the student body through your department’s event page on the UMSU website, social media, posters, and word-of-mouth. It's important to ensure that the promotion is clear and concise, and that all necessary information, such as the date, time, and location of the collective, is included.
You can also request for Comms to include promotion for your collective in our weekly eNews via the CME Help Desk. The deadline for eNews content is midday (12pm) on Thursdays.
Use the Figma file to create your own artwork. If you need assistance, please contact the help desk. Two A1 posters can be printed on request and displayed in approved locations.
Most collectives require very little CME support, but if you do need any help, feel free to contact the Help Desk.
