Look, measuring our events isn't just busy work - it helps us figure out what students actually love, proves why we need resources for the good stuff, and shows we're making a real difference. Plus, it makes sure we're not wasting time and money on things that don't work.

Key Data Sources

Review previous year's surveys here.

  • Student Engagement Survey (annual)
  • WinterFest Survey
  • SummerFest Survey
  • Event-specific surveys

Collection Methods

During Events
  • QR code linking to feedback survey at key locations in the event space (watch this space!)
  • Observational data such as crowd size, engagement levels. Are students connecting and loving the activity? Has all the food gone? Were there really long queues?
  • Photos/videos of attendance and participation
Post-Event
  • Email a SHORT feedback survey to ticketholders - make sure you send the survey within 24 hours - did you want to supplement by drawing a prize as an incentive?
  • Ask your audience/attendees about improvements - do it as a socials post or in the survey
  • Social media engagement metrics - how many people loved your promo, commented or shared it?
  • Attendance numbers vs. registrations. Were there lots of RSVPs with heaps of drop-off on the day?
  • Staff debrief sessions - what worked, what didn't

Best Practices
  • Mix quantitative and qualitative
  • Track attendance numbers
  • Gather written feedback
  • Measure against SSAF needs from UMSU

Review and Apply
  • Compare data across similar events. E.g. from this year and previous yearsdoesn't just have to be your department. If you saw an awesome idea run a few years ago that you think might work super well for your event, don't reinvent the wheel! Remodel and tailor what works for your event goal and go forth
  • Did the event meet your objectives? For example, you wanted to put on an event where students could connect with other students, learn resume writing skills and network. Surveys can help!
  • Identify trends. For example, students are turning up more to events that are after lunchtime rather than at lunchtime. So future planning would be to shift the event time to a later part of the day.
  • If you're seeing attendance spike at events with Instagram-worthy photo spots, this tells us we might want to build more social media moments into future programs. It's all about catching those little shifts in how students want to experience things
  • All of the above! Don't let your analysis go to waste. Use your eagle insights for future planning
