NOTE: NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINES
We're streamlining our deadlines to make things easier for staff and Office Bearers.

For the weekly eNewsletter, 'Whats on in Week X' Instagram carousel, LCD screens, and lightbox posters you must provide assets and create a web event on the UMSU website by Wednesday 12pm of that week.

For reshares onto the weekly UMSU Instagram story, your post must be live on your department's account by Monday 9am the week of the event.

Please disregard the deadlines mentioned in the flow-charts below, as these are outdated.

Getting Promotion Through UMSU Communications
If you have an event or initiative you'd like promoted by the UMSU Communications team, you've come to the right place! We offer five main promotional streams, which include:
  1. LCD screens and lightbox posters in buildings 162, 168, and 159
  2. Weekly eNewsletter
  3. “Whats on in Week X” Instagram carousel post
  4. Instagram collaboration (a bit complex, see this article for full policies)
  5. Weekly “Whats on This Week” Instagram story

These process to getting these outcomes looks slightly different depending on if you're doing your own design work for your event or initiative, or if you've reached out to the Design department to create a suite of artwork. The charts below can give you an idea of what you need to do to achieve different types of promotion.

What is a Web Event and Why do I Need One?
A key step in getting your stuff promoted on UMSU channels is to create a web event on the UMSU events calendar. This gives your event a central information hub for us to link students to across all channels. Learn how to make one in the Adding an Event to the Event Website Calendars article.

Not Sure What to Do?
If you're ever unsure about what you need to in order to get promotion, feel free to ask! If you need clarifying information, get in touch with Communications through Teams or through emailing cme-support@union.unimelb.edu.au.
